What is tallow?

What is it?

What benefits does it have for skin?

Why is it becoming so widely used?

First off... FUN Fact about tallow- because I LOVE FUN FACTS!

McDonald's used to fry their legendary french fries is beef tallow up until 1990! No wonder everyone loved them!!

Okay, what IS tallow?

Tallow is simply, beef, bison, or deer fat rendered down (cooked down and strained of meat and impurities). Some fat areas produce better quality tallow than other fat areas (around specific organs). Grass-fed and finished is THE BEST type of tallow to use.

WHY use it in skincare?

Tallow is close to our own natural skin oil; it shares a similar biology. It (tallow) provides an abundance of rich, beneficial nutrients to your skin in order for it to stay and look healthy, supple, and young looking. Tallow also helps repair skin, prevents damage, and keeps it moisturized longer than "store bought" moisturizers. This amazing fat has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that aid in preventing and healing acne! Nutrients found in tallow:

* Vitamins A, B12, D, E, and K* Alpha Linoleic and Linoleic acids in an almost perfect ratio of 1:1 The omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that maintain the structure and barrier foundation of our skin. These are helpful for anti-inflammatory and immune response in the skin for eczema and rosacea.

* Stearic acid and oleic acid- found on the outer layer of skin and in our skin oil (sebum). They soften, moisturize, regenerate, and are anti-inflammatory. Stearic acid helps to repair skin and improves skin barrier function. Oleic acid helps the nutrients penetrate deeply into our skin.

* Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is antimicrobial.

* Palmitoleic acid is a very active antimicrobial in our skin. It's also one of the basic building blocks of our skin (which decreases as we age).

* Palmitic acid helps improve smoothness of skin and helps with the skin barrier function (which also decreases as we age).
